Newport Beach Weekend

We are in Newport Beach this weekend for our friends Brett and Carol Anne’s wedding.

Yesterday Harper Sue woke up at her usual time of 5:19am and after some booby time she was ready for snuggles with papa.

Then we loaded up and headed from our hotel to a nearby Starbucks. 70% of the walk was through massive empty parking lots. Gotta love it down here ;)

Then we headed east to Orange and the beautiful Santiago Oaks Park where Brett and Carol Anne tied the knot.

The wedding ended early enough for us to b-line to the beach where Harper Sue enjoyed digging in the sand. She has played in dry sand before at our neighborhood playground but wet sand was something completely different and she was mesmerized for a full 10 minutes.

  1. Barbara Lord: Looks like a fun weekend :) She's really getting bigger! We look forward to seeing all of you on Feb27/28…

  2. Elissa: omg! She is getting so much personality. What fun!

“Hey” “Hey” “Hey”

We’ve got a nice little call-and-response happening with Harper Sue these days primarily based around the “hey” sound.

Short tangent: My best guess is that some form of calling is developed as her increased mobility allows her to be farther and farther away. I’ve seen this on Animal Planet a million times but it’s a trip to see it in human development too. That said, I started re-reading “The Art of Raising a Puppy” and the obedience sections are not-so-surprisingly similar to “The Discipline Book: How to Have a Better-Behaved Child”.

  1. nanci corzine: Couldn't open this one. Hope you get it fixed soon.

    • Patti Lord: should be fixed now :)

  2. nanci corzine: She's "talking" so much. I ran into another little one who talked a lot and for the same reasons... the…

Harper Swing Sue

While we where down in San Diego for Thanksgiving at Elissa and Derek’s we shacked up at a hotel along Mission Bay and took advantage of the lovely walking trail that borders the hotel both mornings. The weather was incredible (high 70′s) and we past at least five separate playgrounds on our short walk. The spiral slide and swings where calling out “She’s TOTALLY old enough to play on us. Come on!” Harper’s fantastic little giggle is hard to hear on the video but you can see the joy in her face. Lucky for her there is an identical swing set just across the street from our house.

  1. nanci corzine: Wow, she just "takes" to everything new and with gusto. Looks like she's helping bring out the kid in you…

Patti and Harper fun in the new play loft.

  1. nanci corzine: What fun you're going to have in the "play loft". Looking forward to connecting again with Harper's costume. Love to…
